Key Factors
While SBS fencing definitely has a low-cost reputation, that doesn’t mean you have to just get by if you have the budget to upgrade the materials. Cedar, for instance, is a high-quality wood that looks great in a SBS fence, and while you will experience the same kinds of gaps over time, you’ll get a great-looking fence that will definitely enhance the value of your property.
Climate should also be taken into account if you install a SBS fence. Concrete anchors are necessary for the posts if you’re in a cold-weather climate where the ground freezes and the posts should always be sunk at least 36 inches deep. If you live in a warm, damp climate, vinyl may be the best material for your side-by-side fence, as it resists water damage far better than most kinds of wood. In a cold climate you can use multiple kinds of wood depending on the look and feel you want, but make sure you research the wood to understand which kinds will begin to form wider cracks over time.
So those are the basics. The best way to look at a side by side fence is to view it as a reliable product that will stand the test of time, especially if you’re looking for a low-cost fence that can definitely go the distance.
